Hike & Bike Mt. Ijen
This 2 day adventure is designed for those of you that are staying in Bali but actually would like to witness one of the most impressive sights in East Java as well in a short 2 day package. Ijen Volcano or Mount Ijen is an active volcano located in Banyuwangi regency, East Java, Indonesia. This crater has a height of 2,343 m and has erupted four times (1796, 1817, 1913, and 1936). Ijen Crater is located at an elevation of 2,368 meters above sea level. Interestingly is this crater is located in the middle of the largest caldera on the island of Java. From the top you can see the large lake with a bluish green mist and sulfur fumes. A truly amazing experience.
On day 01 we will mountain bike through the beautiful surroundings of Mount Ijen taking in the sights along the way. On day 2 we will make the hike to the top of the crater of the volcano.
DAY 01 | Morning transfer from Bali to the Ijen plateau | Afternoon mountain bike ride | 30km
We pick you up at your hotel in Bali around 07am. It is a 3 hours drive to Gilimanuk, the village from where the ferry leaves for Java. The ferry crossing takes one hour. From the boat you will already be able to see Mount Ijen. After the crossing we stop at a local restaurant at the seashore for lunch. Then we continue to drive to the Ijen Plateau (1.5 - 2 hours). We will start our mountain bike ride around 2 pm and will be on the bikes for about 3 hours cycling through the hills from the Ijen plateau. We will ride mainly through Arabica coffee plantations. We spend the night at our local accommodation not far from Mount Ijen. (L)
DAY 02 | Hike to the rim of the crater of Mount Ijen | 6km
At 05.00 o'clock in the morning you have breakfast with coffee or tea before departing with our car to Paltuding. Paltuding is the point from where you start trekking to mount Ijen. It takes about an hour to trek the 3 kilometres to the top. On the edge of the crater you can enjoy a panorama at Ijen crater lake. You can also see a lot of sulphur miners with loads of around 80 kg on their shoulders walking up the rim and down the slopes of the mountain. After you enjoyed the Ijen crater lake, there is still time to visit the sulphur factory where sulphur is purified and packed in the village of Taman Sari. After we drive back to the harbour to catch the ferry to Bali. We drop you at your hotel in the South of Bali where the tour concludes. (B L)
