There are no activities planned during the day, plenty of time for you to relax and recover a bit from the journey. In the evening we will head out for a local meal where you will get to meet your fellow travelers and the rest of the team. (D)
Day 2 | Canggu | cycle 45km
Time to hit the trails! No need to pack up today as we will ride all the way back to our charming accommodation in Canggu. An early transfer will bring us to the Mount Batu Karu (2276m), this area of Bali is not frequently visited by western tourist but will simply take your breath away. Today's ride can be 30km long or for those up for a challenge we can ride the full 45km. Both options are possible. After the ride we can visit the famous Tanah Lot Temple. One of Bali's most beautiful temples build on a rock in the ocean, at high tide the sea surrounds the temple. That's two world heritage sites in one day! Jatiluwih Rice Terraces and Tanah Lot Temple. What more can you want for your first day on the bikes. (B L)
Day 3 | Ride from Mount Batur all the way down to Ubud | 35km
Another great ride today. Around 08am we will transfer from our hotel to the centre of the island where the volcanoes are located. We will first transfer to one of the best viewpoints to see Mount Batur where we can have a coffee break. After it is time to hit the trails. Today we will ride through a maze of local trails all the way down to Ubud. The first bit of the ride goes through fruit farms and local villages. The second part goes through the classic rice paddy fields. We end up in Ubud around 3,30pm. Time enough to relax a bit by the hotels swimming pool or wander around in Ubud. (B, L)
Day 4 | Hike to the summit of Mount Batur
Today we will conquer the Volcano of Mount Batur. To witness Mount Batur at sunrise is to experience one of the most endearing displays of the earth's eternal awakening. Our trekking guide will pick you up around 2am at your hotel in Ubud. Expect to start hiking around 3am and reach the summit around 6am. We descend on a different trail and soak in the local hot springs when we are back down. After the hiking excursion we will transfer back to the South to our accommodation in Sanur located right on the beach. You will have the afternoon free to relax and prepare for the Sulawesi part of the tour. (B,L)
Day 5 | Arrival Makassar and Bulusaraung trip
A short domestic flight will bring you from Bali to Sulawesi. After arrival in Makassar you will be driven to the starting point of the trip in about 30-45 minutes. The starting point is in a quaint village where you can see fruit bats sleeping in the trees. Here you mount your bike and start cycling through an amazing landscape dominated by karst hills. You can make a short stop at some caves (Leang-Leang site) with prehistorical drawings of which recent discoveries estimate these paintings to be the oldest in the world.
During the bike trip you have to walk a part as the road is steep and in bad condition. If you have trouble pushing the bike up, some local villagers are always happy to lend a hand. After this more difficult part you get back on the bike and ride downhill through amazing landscapes before arriving at a local family's home where you will be served a delicious lunch. One and half hour more of cycling remains when you reach the ending point of the trip today. You will be picked up by car and driver and taken in around 1,5 hour to Makassar where you will arrive in the early evening. (B,L)
Day 6 | Biking Barombong & Kampili, transfer to Malino.
For those who are interested in culture and the local way of living, we can take you to local villages in the Barombong & Kampili areas, about 45 minutes from Makassar by car. By mountain bikes you will explore the rural area and get acquainted with the friendliness of the locals. Everywhere you go, be expected to receive a warm welcome. During the trip coffee and tea is served at a local house and a Buginese lunch in another. As you are travelling by bike it is easy to make some stops along the way at some home industries and you can (try to) chat with some of the locals. The bike route of about 50 kilometers in total takes you through different villages, ricefields, windy paths through rows of banana- and lontara palm trees and you cross the river with a small ferry. The trip ends near the Bili Bili dam where the car awaits you to bring you to Malino in about 1,5 hour.
Malino is located at a height of 1100 meters at a distance of about 80 km from Makassar by main road. It is a very fertile area with some of Sulawesi's most beautiful rice fields. You sleep comfortably in a bungalow amidst the rice fields. No dining possibilities at Rumah Tengah Sawah, except breakfast. For dinner we use the car and driver to bring you to a local restaurant in town (about 4 km away) (B L D).
Day 7 | Cycling Malino
Explore the beautiful surroundings of Malino by bicycle. You will cycle through rice fields and lush green areas. Along the way you'll encounter fields of various fruits and vegetables and discover different herbs. Views are astonishing everywhere you go.
Due to the mountainous area the trip will consist of ascends as well as descends. A simple but tasty lunch is served in a local home. After lunch you will be picked up and driven back to the guesthouse. (B L)
Day 8 | From Malino to Manimpahoi by bicycle and car to Bira
From the guesthouse in Malino you drive the first 15 km upwards to a small side road. From here you start cycling to the small village of Manimpahoi, a route of about 50 km. You will follow small roads as well as the main road, which is not much used by traffic. From Manimpahoi you will be driven by car in about 2,5 hours to the small beach town of Bira. (B L)
Day 9 | Free Morning, Makassar airport, flight to Bali
The morning is free for you to spend. In the early afternoon you drive back to Makassar by car in about 5 hours. You will be driven to the airport where you check in for your afternoon/evening flight to Denpasar where our Bali crew will pick you up at the airport . Overnight in Sanur, Bali. (B L)
